My Tuto Best of – Precision Ship Modelling – The Cutty Sark

we will teach you everything that you could ever need to know about using modern 3d software to recreate classic sailing ships. The methods used can be easily applied in the modelling of all kinds of vessels; from modern warships to early-era longboats.

This tutorial set can be used to create high and low polygon ship pieces that can be used in all forms of digital media from Advertising to Film and TV through to Games. The “Cutty Sark” model, that is the focus of this tutorial, holds up well in both distance shots and close up to a very high resolution. For example, the hull texture, initially perceived as a plain black; in close up views is revealed to actually be made of fine layers of texture, starting as wood with a black tar, and then a gloss over the top.

From the initial setup of the ship, to the final rendering, everything is carefully covered, in over 30 hours of detailed instructional video. You’re shown how to set up the splines that will eventually form the keel, which is then surfaced up. The keel is split into a top and bottom segment so that the top can have deck holes for water drainage added. The deck is then laid and refined to its three main heights before the deck houses are added. This is followed by additional detail such as yardarms, belaying pins, rope hooks and so forth.

After this the masts are carefully added in and mast boom extensions put in place, from which the first rigging including the climbers is added. On top of this, several more layers of rigging are built up using splines and put into place. Sails are created, and using wind dynamics and Garment Maker their effective use is demonstrated. The anchor is modelled and an edge-looping exercise is completed which builds the figurehead. When complete, everything is put together and textured using several different methods. Finally a sea system is built and the completed 3d model is rendered using Mental Ray and the Daylight system.

This highly regarded tutorial set has been used by companies and professionals worldwide including the British Metropolitan Police and has featured in reconstruction footage broadcast on international TV. There’s really no better Maritime Modelling tutorial than this one.

“When mystics use the word love, they use it very carefully — in the deeply spiritual sense, where to love is to know; to love is to act. If you really love, from the depths of your Consciousness, that love gives you a native wisdom. You perceive the needs of others intuitively and clearly, with detachment from any personal desires; and you know how to act creatively to meet those needs, dexterously surmounting any obstacle that comes in the way. Such is the immense, driving power of love.”
Eknath Easwaran

“Therefore, when I say that ‘I love,’ it is not I who love, but in reality Love who acts through me. Love is not so much something I do as something that I am. Love is not a doing but a state of being – a relatedness, a connectedness to another mortal, an identification with her or him that simply flows within me and through me, independent of my intentions or my efforts.”
Robert A. Johnson

“When you are aware that you are the force that is Life, anything is possible. Miracles happen all the time, because those miracles are performed by the heart. The heart is in direct communion with the human soul and when the heart speaks, even with the resistance of the head, something inside you changes; your heart opens another heart and true love is possible.”
Don Miguel Ruiz

“The physical, emotional and mental realms are all effects! Shift into working with cause by developing your higher mind, heart and spirituality and then your life will significantly change for the better. Get in touch with your spiritual nature. Your imagination is your preview to life’s coming attractions.”
Albert Einstein

Beneath this individual self there is what some traditions call the “true self.” Others call it the pure self, the unconditioned self, the universal self, no-self, essence, pure being, or true nature. It is that which is always there whatever our experience. It is the essence of what we call “I”—something so familiar and personal, and yet on deeper inspection totally impersonal, without any qualities or character. It is the pure am-ness that we know when the thinking mind becomes still, and we rest in primordial awareness.

The taste of this essential self is delicious. Mystics have written volumes of poetry about its blissful nature. Enlightened ones have urged us to discover it, and to soak in the calm and joy it brings. Knowing this true self is so delightful we do need to develop or culture love for it. We cannot help but be in love it with it.

Our ability to love and be loved has always been our natural state and eternal heritage. Yet through eons of time, we have drawn our attention away to the outer world of our experiences and gradually forgotten this love at the core of our being. By allowing our attention to become fixed upon outer conditions, circumstances and events, we separated ourselves from our own potential and source of life. In an attempt to understand this separation, and our new found inability to experience the love that we knew we were, we gave rise to the notion of fear. This perception of fear was really our personal doubt that we could ever love unconditionally again.

Love is the saving grace of all of humanity. We contact this primal energy in our finest moments. From the moment a baby is born, it is enshrouded in the unselfish love of its mother. From the moment a person springs into action to save others from peril, their own thoughts of survival are ‘overlighted’ by the love and caring that shines from their heart.

When a person dies and reviews their life, they see that one thing that mattered the most: Love. Pure, unadulterated, unconditional love. It is the source of compassion. It is the energy of caring for others. It is the binding force which holds together the entire universe, and it flows through you whenever you simply allow it.

Love is the gateway to spiritual consciousness. It is through activation of the spiritual heart that we pass into a whole new world of expansion and joy. In the realms of spiritual consciousness, we find peace, bliss, and continual inspiration. In the realms of spiritual consciousness, we expand our view of life to see the issues that are important to the soul.

We can then see how love can heal and how we can and should spend the time to spread a little more love in the world every day, even if it is simply done in silent prayer for the well-being of others.

Remember the love within, especially when outer circumstances seem dark. Remember that love is the gateway to the higher realms of consciousness where answers can be found to meet every challenge that life presents.

Tune into love. It will never let you down. Instead, it will set your spirit free to explore the realms of consciousness which offer greater vistas of awareness, greater peace of mind, and the sense of ever-present joy.
